PLN

A resource I want to add to my PLN is Duolingo. I know there are a lot of language learning apps, but I enjoy Duolingo because it is free and easy to keep up with daily. This is a part of my PLN because if I am teaching kids English as a secondary language, I want to understand their first language as much as possible as well.  https://www.duolingo.com/

 1. If I were an English teacher for 3rd graders, I would employ data collection tools through the means of quick and easy/game-like quizzes. Small quizzes would give me an idea of where my students are in terms of the curriculum and where they need more help. Another way I can use data collection tools is by sending out surveys to parents asking how their child manages the work assigned at home. It could include questions like, "How often does your child ask for assistance," "How often does your child seem to get distracted by technology while completing assignments," etc.  2. A topic that I thought was interesting to read about in my classmate's blogs was everyone's experience with COVID-19. It fascinates me that everyone had such different, yet strikingly similar experiences. It seems to all rely on the grade level, high school, and online procedures we individually endured. It is interesting to see how some people seemed to have benefited from and ultima...

 1. My experience with distance learning began in 2020 in my freshman year of high school. When schools shut down and moved to virtual learning, my school taught classes through Zoom. There is absolutely nothing I like about distance learning. I feel that it disconnects me from the material being taught and does not hold me accountable for doing the work. I will say that Zoom is much better than asynchronous learning. That being said, a way to improve the experience of my student's online learning is to ensure I can still have face-to-face conversations with them over Zoom regularly.  2.  Open educational resources are resources online that are completely accessible, editable, and resellable to the public. An example of an OER that we have worked with in this class is anything licensed by Creative Commons. This website: https://raccoongang.com/blog/quick-list-open-educational-resources-examples/ is a full rundown of what OERs are, examples, and the benefits of using them...

 1. Doing the Web page assignment taught me to use a lot of formatting skills such as contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity principles. For example, I ensured that the text and backgrounds contrasted by choosing black text on a white or light blue background. In addition, I ensured that the photos of the assigned readings were aligned. The biggest formatting skill that I learned was how to include a Creative Commons license. What I liked about the assignment was the artistic freedom I felt to make my website my own with only having to adhere to basic artistic principles.  https://sites.google.com/view/msconnellys6thgrade/home 2. I use AI in my daily life a decent amount. I wouldn't say I use it every day but definitely multiple times a week. I find that it is a great tool to culminate research that would take me much longer to extract from the internet. I apply this tool for practical and unacademic uses. For example, when I travel I ask for itineraries for that speci...

1. I had never heard of Diigo before this assignment. I am still not sure I quite understand what exactly it is and all of its uses, but from what I can tell so far, it seems like a great website for collaborative research and education. I would utilize this website if I were compiling a list of sources for either a personal paper or a group project. I both do and do not like the website format/presentation of Diggo. It does not appear to be very user-friendly, however, by the same measure, it appears very academic database-looking. Once I figured out how to navigate the website, it was gratifying to use.  2. Blogging is a form of writing I want to get more practice with, especially since my career goals align with informal/personal writing. What I like about blogging is it allows for the influence of personal bias and anecdotes. What I do not like, is that is not a very private practice, so you have to be mindful about your audience, whoever they might be. What I have learned abou...
